Announcing Information Overload Day!

Posted on October 13, 2014 · Posted in Uncategorized

Every year in October the Information Overload Research Group (IORG) promotes the observance of the worldwide Information Overload Day. This holiday may not cure the problem that is exacting a growing toll on the effectiveness and sanity of knowledge workers worldwide, but it is a way to give some reach to the message that something needs to be done about it!

IORG logoThis year the day is Tuesday, Oct. 21, and I urge you to devote some time during that day to consider how you can reduce the overload you suffer and the one you create for others – and to disseminate this call for action through your own social channels (pass around the link http://iorgforum.org/ioday2014/ ). If we all try to reduce the overload for those around us, we will make the world a better place.

IORG will host an online event on Oct. 21 at 11 AM EDT. This webinar will include three fascinating talks covering different aspects of IO:

  • Swimming against the current: the insurmountable task of changing the corporate email culture
    – by Eran Yariv (Microsoft).
  • Should We Control Our Own Attention: Media Multitasking and Cognitive Control
    – by Eyal Ophir (Yahoo!).
  • Quantitative email usage measurement as a tool for generating actionable insights
    – by Haim Senior (Knowmail).

There will also be an Information Overload Solutions Clinic where the experts will answer questions from the audience related to problems they need to solve in IO space – you can submit your questions in advance here.

Webinar attendance is free, but please register at http://iorgforum.org/ioday2014/.

Happy Information Overload Day, folks!
